Beginner School

Adult Hockey Association Twin Cities Beginner School is designed for Adults who either never learned to skate or have skated but not played hockey. The program takes students through the basic skills of hockey and introduces players to the concepts of team play. The 10 on ice instructional sessions include two monitored scrimmages, where the experienced coaching staff will stop play to point out various ways of handling a situation. There are also two classroom sessions to maximize on ice time and allow participants to ask the coaches questions. Half way through the school the group is divided into two teams and play their first games.

Note:We are accepting registrations at this point for the Beginner Program, which will begin in early December and conclude in April. Please indicate in the notes section of your registration which night you would like to participate. (Wednesday or Thursday.)

Great SaveCost for the Program is $435 (each player must also register individually with USA Hockey) and includes the 10 on ice instructional sessions, two off ice instructional sessions, nine games and a light-weight jersey. The fee does not include equipment or game jerseys. Each team is required to purchase one set of game jerseys (you buy the 2nd one when your team moves into league play.) Each Beginner Session is cut off at 34 players including goalies.

The 2008-2009 Beginner Program will run on Wednesday nights at Breck Anderson Arena, and will begin December 3rd, running through April 15th. Most ice times will begin at 9:30 PM. (See schedule for instructional sessions)

Beginner League/Goalie News:
Through creative purchasing and donations the AHA assembled 3 sets of goalie equipment for rental to our players. The stuff isn't all pretty, but it's all in good working order. Contact the beginner school administrator, Paul Swenson at: beginner@ahahockey.com for more info.

If you are interested in learning how to play hockey you should visit the LifeTime Hockey web site.
