Learn & Play Hockey
Adult Hockey Association has programs designed for everyone from the beginning hockey player to intermediate level players.
Our Beginner School gives adults who did not learn to play hockey as kids or have been away from the game for a long time an opportunity to learn to play hockey. The Intermediate Shooting/Offensive Zone Program offers players an opportunity to improve their skills and get ready for the Winter Program.
The Winter Program has several levels of no-check hockey so that players of all abilities can find a level that fits their skill. The lowest level (D2) is generally for players with very little hockey experience who have recently graduated from the Beginner School get their first taste of league play. Our highest level (Elite) is for more experienced players, most of whom played hockey growing up and may have experience as high as Juniors or College. In between, with seven levels of play, there is a level for all players to play at in a safe and competitive environment!
The Summer Program is designed to be a little bit more relaxed than our Winter Program. There are fewer skill levels of play and fewer games. During the Summer we encourage forming teams with a mix of players from other AHA Winter teams or with players new to the league. This mix promotes improved sportsmanship and allows players to test and sometimes improve their skills. A light-weight jersey is provided so that everyone on the team has the same jersey.
To ensure parity at all levels and that players play at the correct level according to their ability, all new players are required to attend an Evaluation Session.
As a member association of USA Hockey we use a modified USA Hockey Rulebook. This means we play by USA Hockey Rules plus additional rules governing safe non-check hockey. You can download a copy of the USA Hockey Official Rules of Ice Hockey and the AHA Rules Addendum. Full equipment is required. Checking and excessive force are prohibited and penalized. Fighting is NOT tolerated.
